Maison Cacao
Designed and built the full experience for Maison Cacao — a bean-to-bonbon chocolatier in Paris — turning a craft-led story into a warm, cinematic storefront where the product is the hero.

Overview
Maison Cacao is a Paris chocolate atelier working single-origin cacao — roasted, refined, tempered and finished entirely by hand. The brief was to give that craft a digital home: a site that sells, but reads first like an invitation. Everything from the art direction to the front-end build was designed around one line — “Indulge in the moment.”
The Challenge
Premium food is a hard sell online. The taste, the texture and the smell of the atelier are all missing, so the interface has to carry the whole sensory argument on its own. The risk on either side is real: too editorial and nobody buys, too transactional and a house that roasts in forty-kilo batches looks like any other candy shop.
Approach
The visual system leans into darkness. A near-black ground lets warm cacao browns and a single gold accent do all the work, and an Italiana display face against DM Sans gives the brand a couture voice without tipping into pastiche. Photography is treated as the primary content, not decoration — it gets full-bleed space and long, slow reveals.
The structure follows the way someone actually falls for a chocolate house: hero, then philosophy, then the craft told step by step from bean to bonbon, then the collection, then the atelier visit. Each bonbon carries its own tasting note — a raspberry ganache, a stone-ground praliné, a slow caramel in a brittle shell — so browsing feels like reading a menu rather than scanning a grid.
Commerce sits quietly inside all of that. A persistent bag, an add-to-bag interaction that never breaks the scroll, and a newsletter capture framed as “notes from the maison” keep the buying path present without ever interrupting the mood.
Build
The site is a hand-built React front end tuned hard for performance. The hero is the LCP element, so it is preloaded ahead of the bundle with separate responsive crops for narrow and wide screens, served as WebP with blurred base64 placeholders holding the layout steady while images arrive. The result is a heavily art-directed page that still loads fast on a phone.
Outcome
A storefront that feels like the product: dark, warm, unhurried and confidently made. The collection reads as a collection, the craft story earns the price, and the path to the bag stays open the whole way down.
